Bonnie Yales first began to express her creativity through fiber arts. The very
first project was 14 by 6 foot tapestry in Temple Isaiah in Lexington, MA. 92
people needlepointed 12 panels in a variety of stitching techniques under
Bonnie’s supervision in a period of 2 years. Using this medium, she achieved an
international reputation as a foremost designer of gobelin tapestry weaving,
and is particularly well-known for her group projects executed in needlepoint.
Her works include wall hangings, torah mantles, ark curtains, chupahs, tallesim
and other religious articles. Her work is displayed in hundreds of synagogues
and institutions worldwide.
Bonnie especially enjoys designing the neckpieces (atarot) for tallitot. Her
customers can choose from hand-painted cloth designs or a painted needlepoint
canvas. Both items can be affixed to a tallit. Likewise, the tallit bag and or
kippah can be made in either medium.
If you get a chance to meet Bonnie Yales, you will discover that she is a
vivacious lady whose presence brightens a room as much as her floral
watercolors and acrylics.
Bonnie’s watercolors and mixed medium paintings reflect her soul. Her paintings
are often inspired by Jerusalem where she has spent considerable time. Her love
for Jerusalem and nature is expressed in a lyrical, deeply spiritual way. Her
work is currently hanging in the State Capitol Building in Boston and enriches
more than two hundred and fifty synagogues in the United States. Leading
figures in the Jewish community wear Bonnie’s tallesim. Bar Mitzvah boys and
Bat Mitzvah girls wear her tallitot from coast to coast. Her torah mantles
enrich the ark of the Hebrew Union College Chapel in Jerusalem, Israel.
Alice Gartland of the Ponte Vedre and Beaches Leader newspaper wrote the
following statement about the artist’s exhibit at the Vandroff Gallery of the
Jewish Community Alliance in Jacksonville, Florida: Yales’ paintings reflect
her impressions of life landscape, flowers and the forces of nature. Often
called a Lyricist, she paints what she feels and portrays the excitement going
on inside of her.
Bonnie is a member of the Beaches Art Center in Jacksonville, Florida, a
cooperative gallery. Her work can be viewed and purchased at this site.
Through color, form and movement, her work is an expression of her soul as well
as the myriad forms of creation’s designs. Yales’ works, are displayed in 31
states including two synagogues in Jacksonville, the Episcopal Church in
Lexington, Massachusetts, and Harvard Memorial Church in Cambridge,
Massachusetts. Her paintings can be found at the King David Hotel, the
Jerusalem YMCA, the Hebrew Union College in Jerusalem and at various galleries
in the US and Israel.
Bonnie's work is also featured at Hampton Gallery in Jacksonville Beach, Florida and Zhandra's Arts & Eats in St. Augustine, Florida.
